Program Overview

YouthBuild San Antonio is part of a nationwide mission aimed at community and leadership development. The program provides its trainees with marketable construction skills as well as career planning and preparation for postsecondary education.

Eligibility

Eligibility criteria are as follows:

  • The applicant must be between the ages of 16 and 24, and
  • The applicant must be economically disadvantaged (maximum income level to be determined by HUD and varies according to the size of the household and/or a documented educational need)

Recruitment of participants includes the greater San Antonio region and surrounding areas.

  • Office of Juvenile Probation
  • Texas Youth Commission
  • Sam's Homeless Shelter
  • Local School Districts
  • Justice of the Peace (Precinct I)

Funding

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is the program's source of funding. Typically each grant period lasts 24 months and is divided into three 6-8 month training cycles.
